Especially for everyone in the seminar group to have an idea of what you do.

My reflections:
Children of Men: It was very interesting to see this again, so prescient! I read the book (by P.D.James) many years ago and had seen the film before, but to see it through the lens of a year of a pandemic made it much more poignant. I was especially struck by:
- Lack of colour: creating depressive mood (especially in relation and contrast to Pipilotti Rist's Color is Dangerous)
- Religious associations: outcast pregnant woman on the run, stable, 'It's a miracle', 'reverence of the soldiers, salvation at the end
- Long shots: especially of the war zone
- Quietus, death ritual: It's better in the book and involves boats and robes, I think.
- Mass infertility and population decrease
- the scene in the gated compound which looked like the Tate Modern, with Picasso's Guernica in one scene. The main character says something like: 'Who will get to see all this (art) when there are no more people?' What happens to art when there's noone to look at it, value it, appreciate it, store it or even make it?
The book was written in published in 1992 and set in 2021; the film was made in 2006 and set in 2027.
Pipilotti Rist's Colour is Dangerous:
Color is dangerous is an interview with the artist Swiss artist, Pipilotti Rist. She discusses a fabulous film of violent peaceful protest, with no actual violence, Everything is all over. A woman walks down a street smashing car windows with a tall gladioli flower. A wonderful way to play with the viewers' perception. And the colour! For my reflections on the interview and video see Pipilotti Rist.
