Browns 1, June 2020
Colour: I wanted to use a very different palette to see how colour communicates meaning so I have been experimenting with various browns, beiges and oranges. One friend said the colours reminded her of 60s decor; another said they were autumnal; yet another said they were her partner's favourite colours. I chose them because I thought they would be dull, but in fact I think adding the oranges makes the browns more interesting. Once again, the whole is probably greater than the sum of the parts.
Form: Part of this piece is modular, made up of individually knitted spikes, which I then knitted together. The other section, where I was trialing various other forms, is less ordered. On this part, I have also added loop stitches, which, I hope, make it hairy. I stopped knitting this as I felt the two different types of forms didn't work very well together. I might felt it and then cut it up.
I think the most interesting aspect to me is how the form changes when the phallic shapes are tensioned.
