Collaboration
Hannah Fry, Tim Heath, Sarah Kniveton and I met almost every week during lockdown via video and it was a life saver! Having a group of empathic people who were facing the daunting uncertainties of doing their MA during this pandemic was extremely helpful. At various points, when I was feeling especially disconnected from the course, stuck for ideas or unable to start making, someone would suggest a collaboration, which gave me focus and really helped me to start working again. The puppet making exercise, for example, inspired my life sized canvas body (still a wip!) , and the other research we did for Danse macabre has fed into my final selection. We even set up a private blog for it!
Once Locksbrook opened we stopped meeting weekly because of having different schedules, but I'm glad to have the depth of connection and continuity that we've developed as a group. We did manage to arrange an informal crit, in the studio, a week before the one with Andrea, which was very helpful.
We also agreed to put Danse macabre 'on hold' until after this next deadline for MF003, so that we could concentrate on our individual work. . Maybe we'll work on it further during the next module which doesn't have a studio focus?
I am very grateful to these 3 peers, especially for their solidarity, support and friendship during those extremely difficult days and am glad to be able to be back in the studio with them now.
