Design ideas: clamps to hold the metal curves in place
After much thought and discussion with Si, I decided to construct a series of clamps which would be welded to the end of straight 12ml rod stands. Each clamp has a screw to tighten the clamp and will, hopefully, hold the curved metal pieces in position, securely. (See centre image)

I have made 6 of these metal stands, with clamps on the end. Each straight rod is my height, 5'7".

Click the link above to see images of the assemblage beginning to look like an assemblage. The system works! I especially wanted the curves to defy gravity and the clamps hold them securely enough to do that. Will they still hold when the weight of the knitting is added, I wonder?
