18.2.20 Pil and Galia Kollectiv
I really enjoyed Pil and Galia's talk. It felt like an interesting fusion between the past and the future. It feels as if a lot of their work is about identity. They talked about a 'universal hope for remaking the self'. I was impressed with the way they wove world views, philosophy, critical theory and politics so seamlessly throughout their work, and the talk.
Their website is fabulous! http://www.kollectiv.co.uk/Projects.html
I also had a tutorial with Pil, although he told me that Galia uses stitch in their work, so it would have been interesting to talk to her too.
He talked about:
The links between wearable art and fashion.
What can clothing be? Alienation/defamiliariastion
How does clothing relate to social/political and cultural thought?
he also mentioned 'The world goes pop' where 10 people wore one dress.
