Trial set up, 20.10.20
I set up my newly made metal sculpture #5 with my first pair of concrete feet and Body cocoon 4 as a trial. I definitely think the combination works and feel relieved that the metal sculpture, works with the concrete feet. The feet stand independently, but the metal form is weighted to the right, so the two together don't stand without support. I think I've decided that that doesn't matter - although free standing sculptures would be much easier to install! For this trial photoshoot I leant the metal form against the wall and that kept it upright. I do think the solution I used for my last assessment worked well, using steel wire to balance or suspend the forms in various positions and permutations. I especially like the idea that the whole assemblage has so many potential variables and, because of the method of installation, there can be an element of site responsiveness in the way I set it all up. And it will be different every time!
I'm very pleased with the concrete feet, especially. I made a good decision to use Jesmonite for my assessment as it's much more predictable and I was able to make 3 pairs in the limited time I had. Adding in a pair of my practice plaster feet, was also fine, and maybe having feet of mixed materials will be fine going forward. I do think that the finish of the concrete feet is exceptional. For more detail see Concrete feet.
